Functional Medicine @ Whole Family Medicine

EACH OF US IS UNIQUE

not just in appearance and personality, but in genetic make-up, environment, stress level and biochemistry.  Functional Medicine doctors attempt to take each of these factors into account to understand WHY our patients have a particular problem.  Understanding why often leads to therapies that aim to reverse imbalances or other causes of illness.  This approach can alleviate the cause of many problems that traditional approaches dismiss as psychosomatic or unrelated to other problems a patient is having. Typically, allopathic doctors (MDs) focus more on arriving at a diagnosis and assigning a strong medication to block symptoms of illness, whereas Functional Medicine doctors try to act before illness is full-blown to stop things from getting to the point that a strong medicine is the only option.  The core of this is that you need to come in early for an assessment of where imbalances may be lurking that if reversed can PREVENT emergence of disease.
